Michael Schabort

Michael Schabort (originally from Cape Town) has spent the past sixteen years living and teaching Ashtanga Yoga worldwide.

Since a very young age, Michael has had a deep curiosity for the three questions that almost no human can answer, “Why am I here?”, “Where am I from?”, and “Where am I going?” The mystery of this existence and a desire to truly connect and know (call it what you will) God consciousness kept him forever curious and inspired to explore philosophies, practices, and ancient wisdom; one being Yoga.

He has studied with and has been greatly influenced by some of the world’s most renowned teachers in the Krishnamacharya lineage, most notably Sharath Jois, grandson of the famous exponent and Guru of Ashtanga Yoga, Shri K. Patthabi Jois. Michael was authorised Level 2 at the KPJAYI and returned to Mysore India annually to continue his practice with his teacher Sharath Jois.

He finds joy in contemplating the Shastras (ancient scriptures) and strives to follow his own tantric path authentically. He engages with his students with enthusiasm and inspiration, taking pleasure in sharing his experiences and yogic wisdom with genuine love and care.

Eva Raal

Eva has been practicing yoga since 2006 and teaching since 2015. Through her extensive travels she has had the privilege to explore a number of different yoga styles and study with many inspirational teachers from around the world, including Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor, Ty Landrum, Petri Räisänen, Dylan Bernstein, Simon Borg-Olivier, Shimon Ben Avi and Cape Town locals Jim Harrington and Michael Schabort.

Eva was first introduced to Ashtanga yoga in 2014 and from her personal experience she truly believes in the healing power of this practice and its potential to bring us into a more honest and harmonious relationship with ourselves and others. She is committed to sharing this practice with integrity and respect to the tradition but free from dogma, hierarchical power dynamics and harsh physical adjustments, which this style of yoga is unfortunately sometimes associated with. Eva sees the student-teacher relationship as one of reciprocal learning and creative collaboration. She supports her students with quiet attentiveness and her gentle, intuitive touch and she holds a space that is non-competitive and welcoming to people of all ages and abilities. She teaches in both English and German.

Eva’s teaching is inspired by her personal daily practice, regular attendance of courses and retreats with senior Ashtanga teachers and her continuous study of ancient philosophies. Eva is also a dedicated student of Vipassana meditation and contemporary mindfulness practices and she recently completed a Certificate Training in Mindfulness-Based Interventions with the Institute for Mindfulness South Africa (IMISA), in collaboration with Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Eva has an academic background in classical literature and spent eight years lecturing Latin, Ancient Greek and Biblical Hebrew at Stellenbosch University. Her passion for ancient languages and her love for yoga have in recent years led her to the study of Sanskrit and she has been a guest teacher on this subject at several yoga teacher trainings since 2017.

In her free time you’ll find her in the mountains or the forest.
